Aeros Shoot Down Marlies

January 16, 2009

(HOUSTON, TX) – This is not a repeat, but the Marlies went to the shootout.

For the second consecutive game, the Marlies dropped a shootout decision by a 3-2 score, this time to the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center.

Boyd Devereaux and Mark Bell scored for Toronto, while Matt Beaudoin and Ryan Hamilton had the Houston goals.

Houston opened the scoring on the power play when Corey Locke sent a pass in front to Beaudoin, who slipped the puck under the pads of Justin Pogge. Toronto held a 13-5 shot advantage after the first period.

Devereaux evened the scoring in the second period before Bell put Toronto ahead 2-1 with a power play goal as he beat Nolan Schaefer for his ninth goal of the year.

Hamilton tied the game in the third on the power play, when his snap shot from the slot beat Pogge over the glove to even the game 2-2.
Both teams had chances in overtime, but Houston scored three consecutive goals in the shootout from Locke, Morten Madsen and Beaudoin to seal the win, as Toronto was scoreless.

Toronto is now 4-5 in the shootout this year.

The Marlies will head to San Antonio for a rematch of last year’s first round playoff series with the Rampage on Monday night.
