Marlies Drop Game Against Phantoms

November 18, 2009

Toronto Can't Beat Backlund In Glens Falls

(GLENS FALLS, NY) - Call it a wash if you will, after the Marlies have Phantoms have now exchanged shutout victories on home ice.

Johan Backlund made 25 saves as the Marlies were shutout 2-0 by the Adirondack Phantoms at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Wednesday night.

Jonathon Matsumoto and Matt Clackson had the goals for the Phantoms in the victory.
Joey MacDonald stopped 19 shots in the loss.

The Phantoms scored the opening goal of the game just over two minutes into the first period and that goal stood for a long time. It wasn't until late in the second when Clackson jumped on a rebound in the slot to bang it past MacDonald to make it 2-0.

Toronto had several scoring chances including a 5 on 3 advantage in the third period. With just over three minutes remaining in the third period, the Marlies went to the power play for the eighth time in the game, and pulled MacDonald for the extra attacker for the remainder of the game, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The Marlies wrap up their current six game road trip on Friday night in Cleveland against the Lake Erie Monsters.
