Marlies Sign 2009 Memorial Cup Champion


Jeff Jackson, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has signed goaltender Andrew Engelage to an American Hockey League contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.


Engelage, 20, played in 54 games with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League during the 2008-09 season earning a record of 46-4-1 with a 2.35 goals-against average and 0.914 save percentage. The 6’5, 206-pound goalie helped guide the Spitfires to a Memorial Cup Championship with a 14-2-1 record during the playoffs. Engelage ranked first in the OHL in wins, third in goals against average and third (tie) with five shutouts. In 20 postseason games, the Oshawa, Ontario native registered a 2.86 goals-against average and 0.908 save percentage.
Engelage was named the starting goalie at the 2008-09 OHL All-Star Classic, representing the Western Conference.
