Marlies Return Home, Suffer 6-3 loss
Griffins three power-play goals sink Marlies

(TORONTO) – Jeremy Williams’ three point game led the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 6-3 win over the Toronto Marlies on Saturday afternoon. The Marlies made a push late in the third, but it was too late as they suffered their seventh loss of the season in front of 4,126 fans at Ricoh Coliseum.

The Griffins jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 11:41 of the first period. Jakub Kindl fed Evan McGrath at the top of the circle where he beat a screened Joey MacDonald for his fourth of the season.

With only 22 seconds remaining in the first period, Jay Rosehill netted his first goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Rosehill redirected Brett Festerling’s wrist shot from the blue line. Daryl Boyce also picked an assist on the goal. Festerling has notched a point in both Marlie games he’s played in this season.

Grand Rapids scored three, second period goals to put them ahead 4-1 at the second intermission. Williams, the Marlies all-time goal scoring leader, netted a goal and two assists during the middle frame.

Toronto has had their fair share of problems in the second period, as they have been outscored 28-9 so far this season.

Alex Foster made the game 5-2 when he beat Griffins netminder Daniel Larsson. He fired a slap shot from the point for his fifth of the season, and fourth in the last two games. Juraj Mikus and Viktor Stalberg picked up the assists on the tally.

Foster netted his second of the period to make it 5-3, but it wasn’t enough as the Griffins added an empty net goal to make it 6-3.
Kindl finished the night with three assists for Grand Rapids.

The Marlies look to rebound tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Lake Erie Monsters at 4:00 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum.
