Hanson Records Three Point Game As Marlies Win Third Straight To Open Road Trip

(CLEVELAND, OH) – With six straight games on the road, the Marlies got things off to a good start in Cleveland.

Ryan Hamilton had the game winner into an empty net as Toronto scored a 3-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday night. Christian Hanson and Viktor Stalberg had the other Toronto goals, while Brock Bradford and Ryan Stoa had the markers for the Monsters.

While the first period was scoreless, it was tough for either team to find any momentum with 14 minutes of penalties, including back to back delay of game penalties against Toronto for clearing the puck over the glass, which resulted on nearly a full two minute 5-on-3 advantage.

Lake Erie opened the scoring in the second period on a goal by Bradford midway through the first period. Six minutes later, Hanson scored his fifth goal of the season when he redirected a Stalberg shot through the pads of Tyler Weiman to make it a 1-1 game. Stalberg then put the Marlies up 2-1 in the third on a deflection of his own, off a shot by Ben Ondrus. Hamilton added an empty net goal with just over a minute to go in the third period, but the Monsters managed to cut the lead with 14 seconds left in the third, as Stoa tapped in a rebound off the outstretched leg of James Reimer.

Stalberg and Hanson both had a two point night, while Mike Zigomanis extended his point streak to six games with a pair of assists. Zigomanis now has 12 points in the six straight games he’s played since joining the Marlies.

Reimer made 26 saves for the win, while Weiman stopped 26 shots in the loss.

Toronto was 0 for 3 on the power play, but a perfect 7 for 7 on the penalty kill.

The Marlies continue their road trip in Rochester on Saturday night against the Americans. Puck drop is 7:00pm.
