Marlies Slay Monsters

Hanson Records Hat Trick In Final Game Of Road Trip

(CLEVELAND, OH) – Two weeks ago Christian Hanson recorded a three point game in Cleveland as the Marlies opened their six game road trip. Looking for their first win since that outing, Hanson turned it up another notch.

Hanson recorded a hat trick and added an assist as the Marlies swamped the Lake Erie Monsters by a 7-1 score on Friday night at the Quicken Loans Arena.

Alex Foster also had two goals, while Ryan Hamilton and Viktor Stalberg added the others. Jiri Tlusty and Tyler Bozak both chipped in with three assists each, as Toronto closed out their road trip with a 2-3-0-1 record.

Marty Sertich had the lone Lake Erie goal.

Hamilton opened the scoring with a shorthanded breakaway goal, as he slipped the puck past Trevor Cann just over four minutes into the game. Toronto added to their lead later in the period with a pair of power play goals from Hanson and Stalberg less than two minutes apart, with the first one coming on a two man advantage. Toronto held a 3-0 lead and 13-1 shot advantage after the opening period.

The Monsters would get on the board early in the second period when Sertich deflected a Matt Clarke point shot past James Reimer to make it a 3-1 game. 1:14 later, Foster scored to make it a 4-2 game.

With less than six minutes to go in the third period, and the Monsters on the power play, Lake Erie pulled Cann for an extra attacker in an effort to score, but Hanson would break up a pass in the neutral zone and slide the puck into the empty net for the 5-1 lead. Foster made it 6-1 when he banged in a Stalberg rebound, after a break to the net. Hanson completed the hat trick when his pass from the side of the net banked off a Monster skate in front for the 7-1 score.

Reimer made 21 saves for the win, while the Marlies power play was 2 for 7 while the penalty kill was 6 for 6 with two shorthanded goals.

Toronto returns home for a date with the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday at 4pm.
