Williams’ Two-Point Night Extends Winning Streak to Four Games


(TORONTO) – The Toronto Marlies defeated the Springfield Falcons, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in front of 4,321 fans at Ricoh Coliseum. The victory extends Toronto’s current winning streak to four games.


For the second straight game Jeremy Williams opened the scoring for the Marlies with his patented wrist shot. Phil Oreskovic and Darryl Boyce each picked up assists on Williams’ 13th of the season at the 4:57 mark of the first period. With the assist, Boyce extended his point streak to four games.


Springfield tied the game at 1-1 on a power play when J.F. Jacques scored his first goal of the season past Marlies starting goalie Adam Munro.


The Marlies regained the lead late in the second frame when a Bates Battaglia rebound bounced out to Jiri Tlusty who was able to beat Devan Dubnyk. Stapleton collected the other assist on the play. Tlusty and Stapleton extended their point streaks to seven games on the goal; while Battaglia now has a four-game streak.


Darryl Boyce made it 3-1 on a slapshot on a Marlies power play. Williams passed the puck to Boyce who circled with it and fired a shot past Dubnyk for his 11th of the season. Joey Ryan collected the other assist on the play.


Adam Munro made 15 saves in the win, his seventh of the season. Stapleton, Battaglia, Tlusty and Boyce all extended their current point streaks.


The Marlies host the Syracuse Crunch this Wednesday night at Ricoh Coliseum with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m.


ICE CHIPS: Today’s game was the second of two meetings between the Falcons and Marlies this season…The Marlies came into the game on a three-game winning streak and have outscored their opponents 21-12…The Marlies have only had three power play chances over their past two games…The first 5,000 fans in attendance received a Matt Stajan bobblehead…Adam Munro is now 2-0-0 versus Springfield this season with only two goals against.
