Stapleton Registered Back-to-Back Multi-Point Games over the Weekend

The American Hockey League announced today that Toronto Marlies centre Tim Stapleton has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 1, 2009. In two games this past weekend, Stapleton recorded five points (three goals, two assists) and a plus-two rating.

Stapleton, 26, registered two goals and one assist, including the game-winning tally on Friday night in the Marlies 4-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. The victory was the Marlies seventh consecutive home win, setting a Marlies franchise record. On Saturday versus Rockford, Stapleton scored a goal and collected an assist in the Marlies 6-3 loss. He was named the game’s first star on Friday night and the third star on Saturday.

In recognition of his achievement, Stapleton will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Marlies home game.

Stapleton leads the Marlies in points (41) and assists (32) this season in 42 games played. The Oak Park, Illinois native ranks first in the AHL with seven shootout goals and is third (tie) with 19 power play assists.
