A proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies announced today their 80 game 2009-10 regular season schedule which begins on Sunday, October 4 versus the Hamilton Bulldogs – AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens – at Ricoh Coliseum at 4:00 p.m.

Weekend games dominate the Marlies home schedule this season as the team will play 31 of their 40 home games on weekend dates. The home schedule predominantly features Saturday games, which will include 15 dates at Ricoh Coliseum. The Marlies will also play 11 Sunday home games, all of which will start at 4 p.m. with the exception of their December 13 contest against the Grand Rapids Griffins which will be at 5:00 p.m. Remaining home games are comprised of five games on both Wednesday and Friday, two games on Monday and one game each on Tuesday and Thursday. All weekday games (including Fridays) begin at 7:00 p.m. with the lone exceptions being the Marlies school day games and their game on February 15 (Family Day) against the Abbotsford Heat – AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames – which has a 2 p.m. puck-drop. This season the Marlies will play three school day games, one more than last season. The Marlies school day games will be on November 25 vs. Lake Erie, January 27 vs. San Antonio and March 3 vs. Chicago, with each game starting at 11:30 a.m.

The Marlies longest road trip of the season will take place in January. The eight-game trip will see the club face all seven teams from the West Division as the club visits Rockford, Peoria, Milwaukee, Chicago, Texas, Houston and San Antonio between January 6 – 17. The trip will conclude on Friday, January 22 when the Marlies travel to Grand Rapids to play the Griffins. The club plays their longest homestand from November 21 to December 1. The Marlies six-game home stretch begins with a contest against their division rival, Grand Rapids.

In all, the Marlies take-on 19 of 28 potential opponents; second most of all the AHL teams, in the league’s 74th regular season. The Marlies will play the Hamilton Bulldogs a total of 12 times, the most of any 2009-10 opponents (six in each city). The Marlies face their other division opponents Rochester, Abbotsford, Manitoba and Lake Erie on eight occasions (four in each city) and play Grand Rapids a total of six times (three in each city). The AHL’s North Division welcomes Abbotsford; while the Syracuse Crunch leaves the division and enters the Eastern Conference.

The Marlies will close-out the 2009-10 regular season schedule by hosting Abbotsford on Sunday, April 11 at Ricoh Coliseum at 4:00 p.m.
