Team initiatives help raise over $135,000 for charities throughout the GT
A proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies - primary affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs - announced today that they helped raise a total of $136,018 for numerous charities throughout the Greater Toronto Area during the 2008-09 season. The team also made a franchise record 746 appearances in the community representing a feat more than twice their inaugural season total.
In conjunction with Kids Up Front, team volunteers helped raise a total of $5,000 through 50/50 draws, throughout the season. Working alongside Kids Up Front, Marlies players and staff visited schools across the GTA throughout the year in an effort to reduce youth violence while making our communities safer.
The team’s February 8, 2009 home game versus the Grand Rapids Griffins was held in support of breast cancer awareness and garnered almost $5,500 for the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation through donations and a number of unique auctions. Darryl Boyce and Mark Bell each dyed their hair pink for the pre-game warm-ups prior to the Marlies game against the Griffins.
Nearly 2,340 items, including tickets, suites and team memorabilia were donated as part of key fundraiser initiatives for various charitable outlets throughout the 2008-09 season. The Marlies donated more than $51,000 in tickets to Toronto based charity programs, which allowed underprivileged children to attend live events.
