Marlies Win Home Opener 3-1

ROCHESTER AMERICANS (1) -AT- TORONTO MARLIES (3)

The Toronto Marlies defeated the Rochester Americans, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, by a score of 3-1 tonight, in front of a sold-out crowd at Ricoh Coliseum.

Jake Gardiner opened the scoring early in the first period on a powerplay goal, assisted by Nazem Kadri and Mike Kostka. Less than five minutes later, Ryan Hamilton scored another powerplay marker, opening up a two goal lead for the Marlies heading into the second period. Marcus Foligno scored for the Amerks early in the second period, cutting Toronto’s lead to one goal. Marlies’ captain Ryan Hamilton secured the win for Toronto with a third powerplay goal just before the midway point of the final period.

The Marlies will play the second half of a back-to-back tomorrow as the Lake Erie Monsters, AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, travel to Ricoh Coliseum. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the team’s ticket line at 416-597-PUCK (7825).
