Sifers Forces Overtime, But Marlies Fall Short

(TORONTO) –The Toronto Marlies overcame an early two-goal deficit versus the San Antonio Rampage, but lost 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon in front of 4,437 fans at Ricoh Coliseum. Jaime Sifers’ game-tying goal with 42 seconds remaining forced overtime, but wasn’t enough against the Rampage.

Brett MacLean broke into the Marlies zone and fired a wrist shot past Justin Pogge to put the Rampage ahead early in the first period. MacLean’s 18th of the season was scored while San Antonio was on the power play.

Joel Perrault gave the Rampage a 2-0 lead with his 10th goal of the season at the 17:34 mark of the first period.

Tim Stapleton cut the Rampage lead down to one goal with his 22nd of the season. Stapleton grabbed the puck in the corner before wheeling to the point and releasing a shot that fooled Al Montoya. Andrew Martens picked up the lone assist on the goal.

With the Marlie net empty, and time winding down on the clock, Jaime Sifers was able to tip a Jeremy Williams shot from the point that got past Montoya. Bates Battaglia picked up the other helper on the play.

In the extra frame, Perrault scored his second of the game to give San Antonio the win.

The Marlies hit the road for their next three games, beginning on Wednesday when they take on the Hershey Bears. Toronto returns home for a pivotal matchup against the Syracuse Crunch on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
